“Mobility, Technology and the Environment in Asia”
46th Annual Mid-Atlantic Region Association for Asian Studies Conference
October 6-8, 2017
Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA
DEADLINE FOR PAPER SUBMISSIONS: APRIL 15, 2017
Drexel University and the Mid-Atlantic Region Association for Asian
Studies announce the call for papers for the 46th annual conference.
This year’s conference theme is, “Mobility, Technology and the
Environment in Asia.” The contemporary development of new technologies
and the rapid pace of mobility of people and products have an impact
on cultures, societies, and the environment. This conference promotes
a discussion of Asia within the broader context of mobility and
technology, and the environmental impact of these.
We encourage proposals from any discipline, and welcome participation
from faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students, independent
scholars, and professionals. A keynote address will be delivered by
Laurel Kendall, a past AAS President (2016-17), who is Chair of the
Anthropology Division at the American Museum of Natural History and
Curator of Asian Ethnographic Collections. Dr. Kendall is also a
Senior Research Fellow at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute,
Columbia University.
To propose a panel, individual paper, or poster presentation, please
create an account on our website (maraas.org) and follow the
